I can’t find the exact details of the compensation but it does include equity in Rumble which is a publicly traded company. To whether there is a connection to Rumble’s announcement that it intends to invest more in bitcoin, is uncertain. Dr Respect has been trying to increase his involvement in NFT’s and crypto.
“Dr Disrespect will also lead Rumble Gaming, acting as an advisor and helping to build the Rumble Gaming community.”
Rumble’s CEO has been eager to enhance the site’s gaming experience, revealing back in October that he “told everyone that I wanted to have the biggest gaming streamer on the internet in 2025.”
Earlier it had been rumored that Dr Disrespect might move to kick.com but he replied that he would retire before moving to kick.com. At the same time Kick co-founder Edward Kraven is said to have made the statement that bringing Dr Disrespect to the platform would be a waste of money and also that he did not really want the drama that Dr Disrespect would bring. While that drama has been going on, there has been speculation that one of the biggest draws to kick.com, Adin Ross, might leave kick. Meanwhile, Trainwrecks says that Adin Ross is not leaving Kick. Either Adin Ross has deleted videos or he has not streamed on kick lately as of 11/26/2024.
kick.com has a growing history of treating users badly with censorship, suspensions, and otherwise shadow banning while trying to pick winners and losers on its platform. Afraid to create the edgy content that might bring a streamer traffic, some streamers have reduced their streams or quit streaming on kick all together, because of the paradox between heavy censorship while at the time facing a fairly toxic chat that streamers are afraid to fully banter with. Banning people in chat results in hit squads targeting a streamer to get the streamer suspended so it creates an untenable situation for at least some streamers.
Meanwhile rumble does not seem to be as toxic and is a much more open platform that encourages free speech. Rumble sits on its own servers while kick.com sits on the amazon cloud which precludes the level of free speech that users on Rumble enjoy. One of the primary benefits of kick.com is that it does continue to have a level of discoverability that most streaming platforms, including Rumble, lack. And though it might be an unfair question, still, it is a question to whether if kick had wanted to recruit Dr Disrespect to its platform to what problems–potential disputes–kick would have had with amazon. When kick.com first started, it wanted to be an open, free speech, platform but it very quickly went down the dark corridors of censorship which whether kick realizes it or not, that censorship has hurt kick.com as a platform.
I am not suggesting kick should allow everything. I am simply suggesting that its mods need to show better discretion.
So with the recruitment of dr disrespect, Rumble has a win–unless it blows up in their face.
