Former President George W. Bush is not expected to attend a Thursday event at the White House’s East Room for the unveiling of a U.S. Postal Service stamp dedicated to his late mother.
Dorothy Bush Koch, the former president’s younger sister, is listed by Trump’s office as one of several featured speakers at the event. Alice Yates, the chief executive of the George and Barbara Bush Foundation, will also attend.
In the 2019 book The Matriarch: Barbara Bush and the Making of a Dynasty, Barbara called Trump “a symbol of greed.” It is reported that she was worth around $25 million at the time of her death, separate from her husband’s net worth. Donald Trump is worth around $5.2 billion. Is net worth a symbol of greed or a symbol of success?
Nonsensically Barbara Bush said, “Trump now means greed, selfishness and ugly.” As far as I know she gave no examples of what made her believe that or what she meant by that.
The book also revealed that months before she died in 2018, Barbara said she no longer considered herself a Republican despite having been one of the party’s most recognizable faces. Was she ever really the face of the Republican Party in the way that Nancy Reagan was or Rosalynn Carter was or even the way that Michelle Obama was. Perhaps George W. Bush wants to snub Melania Trump because he knows that next to Melania Trump, his mom as first lady was basically the star of a British Sitcom never put on film.
She could make people laugh but did she always know why?
Who selected Barbara Bush to be on a stamp?
The Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC) evaluates all stamp proposals and recommends subjects for U.S. postage stamps to the Postmaster General, who makes the final decision. CSAC was established in 1957 and is composed of individuals with expertise in various fields such as history, science, technology, art, education, and sports. It’s important to note that while CSAC recommends subjects, the Postmaster General makes the ultimate decision on which stamps are issued.
Anyway, Barbara Bush was once the first lady and that is not an easy job. RIP and congrats on the stamp gig, even if your son does not appreciate the honor.
